Security Implications of the Choice of Distributed Database Management System Model: Relational vs. Object-Oriented

چکیده

Security concerns must be addressed when developing a distributed database. When choosing between the objectoriented model and the relational model, many factors should be considered. The most important of these factors are single level and multilevel access controls, protection against inference, and maintenance of integrity. When determining which distributed database model will be more secure for a particular application, the decision should not be made purely on the basis of available security features. One should also question the efficacy and efficiency of the delivery of these features. Do the features provided by the database model provide adequate security for the intended application? Does the implementation of the security controls add an unacceptable amount of computational overhead? In this paper, the security strengths and weaknesses of both database models and the special problems found in the distributed environment are discussed.

Security Implications of Distributed Database Management System Models

Security features must be addressed when escalating a distributed database. The choice between the object oriented and the relational data model, several factors should be considered. The most important of these factors are single and multilevel access controls (MAC), protection and integrity maintenance. While determining which distributed database replica will be more secure for a particular ...

Secure Database Design

The most commercially available database provides security facility for a single table. However the situation has been changed, as enterprises move from local database to information backbone composed of cooperating heterogeneous database and then direct sharing of information between enterprise on the Internet. A strict security measure at database level is essential for a secure database desi...

Object-oriented Data Bases

INTRODUCTION Object-oriented (OO) programming languages and OO analysis and design techniques influence data base systems design and development. The inevitable result is the object-oriented data base management system (OODBMS). Many of the established data base vendors are incorporating objectoriented concepts into their products in an effort to facilitate data base design and development in t...

An Object-Relational Database Containing Multimedia Data

This work describes the development of an information system to the consultation of specific Criminal Expert’s Reports based on multimedia database. These reports contain text, image, audio and video information. This Database Management System (DBMS) is based on object-relational (O-R) model. This kind of DBMS is an evolution of relational and object-oriented databases, being appropriate for m...

An Introduction to Distributed Object Management

Object-oriented data management systems (OODMSs) are expected to meet the requirements of new application domains which have a need for functionality beyond those provided by relational database systems. In addition, most of these application domains require the management of distributed artifacts. Therefore, next generation OODBMSs are likely to be distributed systems. This paper provides an o...
